Why should I get a smartcard?

Avoid the queue
– Buy tickets for your smartcard online or from our app before you travel. 

Railcard friendly
– Link any valid Railcard to your account and continue to save on journeys by train. 

Never lose a ticket again
– With a smartcard we can replace your lost or stolen ticket. Just call our Customer Service team or head to your local SWR station and we'll replace your smartcard and any valid tickets that were on it. In some cases we can do this straightaway. At other times we might need to post you a replacement smartcard.

Durable – No more paper tickets, just a re-useable plastic smartcard.

Compact – Multiple tickets can be stored on your smartcard. 

Simple – Register for a smartcard, buy a ticket and touch in and out to travel.

Reliable – A smartcard is more reliable when tapping at a gate or validator.

Manageable – With your online account or through the SWR App, you can view your ticket and journey history, check your Tap2Go smartcard balance and request refunds on tickets you no longer need.

 

What is a smartcard?

Smartcards are plastic cards that hold your ticket details electronically. The cards are much more hard-wearing than paper tickets and you can use the same one each time you travel, which reduces impact on the environment.

How can I get a smartcard?

Getting a free Touch Smartcard is really easy. All you need to do is:

  • create an SWR account or if you have one already, go to our smartcard login
  • apply for a smartcard under ‘Manage your smartcards’
  • fill out our application form
  • choose if you want to buy a ticket for your card
  • submit your order

You’ll receive your new Touch Smartcard within five working days.

Or visit on of our ticket offices. We have 80 stations where a smartcard can obtained while you wait and a further 72 where a smartcard can be ordered and sent directly to you.
