What is a Disabled Persons Railcard?

A Disabled Persons Railcard is a discount card offered by the UK railway network, designed to make train travel more affordable for individuals with disabilities. The railcard aims to encourage more accessible travel and greater independence for people with disabilities.

Am I eligible for a Disabled Persons Railcard?

If you are disabled or have a progressive medical condition you are eligible for the Disabled Persons Railcard if you:

  • Receive Personal Independence Payments (PIP) or Adult Disability Payment (ADP)
  • Receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Child Disability Payment (CDP) at either:
    • The higher or lower rate for the mobility component, or
    • The higher or middle rate for the care component
  • Have a visual impairment
  • Have a hearing impairment
  • Have epilepsy
  • Receive attendance Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance or Pension Age Disability
  • Payment (PADP)
  • Receive War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement
  • Receive War or Service Disablement Pension for 80% or more disability
  • Buy or lease a vehicle through the Motability scheme

When you apply, you will also need to provide proof of eligibility with your application.

What are the benefits of a Disabled Persons Railcard?

With a Disabled Persons Railcard, you can save 1/3 off all Standard and First Class Anytime, Off-peak and Advance tickets for you and a companion.

A Disabled Persons Railcard can also give you savings and discounts on events and days out and our 2FOR1 entry offers at a number of UK attractions.

You can use the Railcard at any time of the day. Over the course of a year, you may save an average of £113. With a 3-year Railcard, you can save even more!

What does a Disabled Persons Railcard cost?

The Disabled Persons Railcard costs £20 for 1 year or £54 for a 3-year railcard.
