Your commute just got better

We’re introducing Arterio, our new fleet of 90 trains that will transform every single journey on our suburban network.

Through Waterloo, the beating heart of our network, SWR’s Arterio trains will carry customers along the arteries of our suburban network to the capital – to work, to school, to restaurants, shops, bars, sporting events and theatres – and home again.

We’ve invested a massive £1 billion to provide more capacity, quicker journey times and better reliability and punctuality for our customers.

The full fleet of 90 trains will serve 98 stations in and around South West London and each ten-car train can carry over 50% more customers than the trains they are replacing.

Sit back, plug in, and enjoy the ride with Arterio. Your journey just got better.

Our new Arterio trains are here. In September 2025, we hit an exciting milestone and now have 20 Arterio trains regularly operating on our routes between London Waterloo and Dorking, Guildford, Hampton Court, Reading, Shepperton and Windsor.

Along these routes, Arterios will call at our busiest stations including Ascot, Earlsfield, Epsom, Feltham, Hounslow, Kingston, Raynes Park, Richmond, Staines, Surbiton, Twickenham and Wimbledon.

We’re rolling out Arterio trains to more stations over the coming months, moving us closer to our goal of transforming every journey across our suburban network.

The Arterio fleet

The 750-carriage, British-built fleet was manufactured by Alstom in Derby using strong, but lightweight materials, such as aluminium for the body shell.

Arterios are far more technologically advanced than the older trains they are replacing and have room for many more customers, with each ten-car train providing over 50% more capacity.

They are designed to improve comfort and reliability for the hundreds of thousands of customers that use our suburban routes to some of the busiest stations in London.
