Hollycombe Steam in the Country, situated on the Hampshire and Sussex border, is home to Britain's largest collection of working steam, with two working steam railways.
The Quarry Railway is a Narrow-Gauge line which runs for 1.5 miles through pretty woodland and fields. The journey starts at the station opposite the visitor centre and offers spectacular views across the South Downs. The Quarry Railway has two steam and one diesel locomotives and is run with historic carriages. The second railway is a popular Garden Railway which runs in a continuous loop of about one third of a mile and is a favourite with children and adults alike.
But once you're off the train, there's still plenty to do. Attractions include the largest Edwardian fairground in Britain, a farm with a collection of working barn machinery, road engines and steam rollers and beautiful Listed gardens.
Dating back to the 1870s, the fairground at Hollycombe has some of the oldest and most thrilling fairground rides of their day including the world's first white-knuckle ride, the 'Razzle Dazzle'. The collection also includes the beautiful Golden Gallopers with an original Gaviolli Fairground Organ, steam-powered Chair-o-planes and a Big Wheel.
