What are SWR smart tickets?

Smart tickets are a faster and easier way to buy and use train tickets as you travel across our network.

With a SWR smartcard, you can add season tickets, including a Flexi Season ticket, selected single and return tickets or sign up for Tap2Go – our flexible pay as you go option for travel across the SWR network.

SWR Digital eTickets are single and return train tickets ordered online or on the app which are emailed to you and stored on your South Western Railway app, so they’re already to hand when you need to scan.

If you are travelling within the London area, you can use an Oyster card or Contactless PAYG using contactless payment card or enabled device.

Where can I use smart train tickets?

SWR Digital eTickets are available on single and return train tickets for all SWR services and most other journeys across Britain.

Our Touch Smartcard can be used for travel across the SWR network and most other journeys across Britain. Tap2Go is valid for use on SWR services only with limited exceptions.

Oyster can be used on the Underground, Overground, TfL Rail, Docklands Light Railway, buses, trams, Emirates Air Line, River Bus and most National Rail services in London travel zones.

You can pay Contactless on the Underground, Overground, TfL Rail, Docklands Light Railway, buses, trams and most National Rail services in London travel zones and certain routes where Contactless has been extended.

Which SWR smart ticket is right for me?

Touch Smartcard Digital eTickets Oyster and Contactless
Train tickets available Season tickets, Flexi Season tickets, London Travelcards, Anytime and Off-Peak single and return train tickets, and Tap2Go Advance, Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak single and return train tickets Pay As You Go: Peak and Off-Peak single tickets with daily and weekly Travelcard capping. Season Travelcard products are also available to buy and load to your Oyster card
Ways to buy tickets Online, on our app, ticket machines (outside London) or at any of our ticket offices Online or on our app – up to 5 minutes before your train leaves Load credit to your Oyster card through the TfL website, the TfL App, Oyster Ticket Stops or topping up at SWR self-service ticket machines (inside the London area) and TfL self-service ticket machines. Simply use your contactless card or device for pay as you go travel in the London travel zones and certain routes where Contactless has been extended. Pre-purchased season products can be purchased and loaded to your Oyster card from the TfL website, the TfL App, Oyster Ticket Stops or topping up at SWR self-service ticket machines (inside the London area) and TfL self-service ticket machines
