Indulge in some retail therapy at Greenwich Market, where you can find stalls offering everything from handmade goods to warming dishes. Keep an eye out for handmade decorations and delicious street food. If you’re in search of a rainy day activity, take refuge at popular attractions like SEA LIFE London or London Dungeon. Finish with a spot of ice skating at Alexandra Palace, then warm yourself up afterwards with a festive cup of mulled wine.
Known for its stunning scenery, the Isle of Wight makes for the ideal winter getaway. First, journey to The Needles – this jagged rock formation rises out of the water like a shark’s teeth and makes for spectacular viewing. At the Milestones Museum, you can step back in time to 1930s Hampshire fora fascinating insight into how the city was run during Victorian times. Continue your journey into the past with a trip to The Vyne, a beautiful Tudor Mansion built in the 16th century for Henry VIII's Lord Chamberlain.
Afterwards, breathe in the cool, crisp air with a walk through Eastrop Park. Located next to Basingstoke train station, the park has previously won the Green Flag Award for being welcoming, safe, well-maintained and clean. Round off your trip at Basingstoke Market, where you can pick up a selection of vegetables, bread and cheeses. Held every Wednesday and Saturday, it’s not to be missed.
With its winding, cobbled streets, magnificent architecture and cosy atmosphere, Salisbury is the ideal weekend destination this winter. Top on your list should be the world-famous Stonehenge, which you can get to by shuttle bus from the train station. Explore the old ruins, then head to nearby Old Sarum to discover the ancient town that dates back over 2,000 years. Sights include a medieval Iron Age hillfort, Salisbury’s original cathedral and a grand castle built by William the Conqueror.

While not quite as ancient as Old Sarum’s, this striking gothic building is still nearly 800 years old and boasts the tallest church spire in England. Located in Hampshire, Winchester has got everything you need for a winter staycation.
